Dates: Apr 2007 to Sep 2007
How did the project start?
Delima has a strong presence across the North East with a number of successful high street fascias stocking some of the most recognised and desirable names in both mens and womenswear. The project started with a brief to explore online retailing in general, establishing how it could be best incorporated into our existing structure allowing the development of an ecommerce side to the business that would provide further stability and business opportunities.
What options did you consider?
Greatest consideration was given to the way we would integrate with our existing stock control system, developing a 'futureproof' back end that would allow us to quickly and efficiently 'bolt-on' new fascias. This would give us the opportunity to have multiple websites all managed from one user administration area and linked to a single centralised stock control system.
What help and expertise did you receive?
Having appointed staff in-house to oversee and manage the project, it was clear we would require external skills to develop the back end. After ruling out the use of open source solutions such as OSCommerce, we contacted a local company VisualSoft who were able to provide a bespoke solution and ongoing development once the project was live.
Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?
Even the best websites are nothing without traffic and customers. Our biggest challenge was (and still is) ensuring a steady and increasing flow, making use of new marketing tools and ensuring we get the best possible results from every avenue. Quick and efficient fulfillment of every order has been a major priority at all times.
What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?
After going live at the end of September, we have seen a week on week increase in sales up to the end of 2007.
What are your plans for the future?
The next six months will see us add two new fascias (websites) whilst focusing extensively on the marketing of all our sites.
