How did the project start?
A young entrepreneur contacted us with his idea to capitalize on the growing popularity of social networking sites. The brief was to design and create a new application to be used within Facebook.
The application would allow members of Social Tiger to find out what student events are being held in their area. Users can find out all about events, which friends are attending and can invite their friends.
What options did you consider?
We considered designing two social tiger interfaces. One as their own website and one as the facebook application. However it soon became clear that the most effective course of action would be to design the interface within facebook itself and create a portal page where people would be able to join the social tiger network.
What help and expertise did you receive?
As this wasn't an area in which we had worked before we had to consult with developers who were expert in the facebook application.
This meant that we soon became proficient in all things facebook ourselves!
Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?
We faced many challenges as facebook is quite restrictive to the overall design style.
This meant that the functionality and appearance of the application was very much dictated by facebook.
What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?
As this was a completely new concept it has opened up a whole new opportunity. The network is growing in numbers constantly which has meant increasing numbers in sponsorship with many companies wishing to advertise on the site.
What are your plans for the future?
Currently the application is only available to students in the North East, specifically Newcastle. The long term plan is to launch the application nationwide. Effectively giving each major university city their very own social tiger network.
