Dates: Sep 2007 to Mar 2008
How did the project start?
Whilst developing the business we had set up a system to download film clips to mobile phones via text messages through mobile phone carriers. This seemed to be an expensive and long process that could be improved upon.
What options did you consider?
Working either closer with the mobile phone operators or developing our own software was the two main issues to consider.
What help and expertise did you receive?
We gained help through Business Link funding which enabled us to hire specialist software programmers to develop software that would send film clips direct to people’s media devices for a fraction of the cost at a quicker speed.
Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?
We learned that using one technology on its own may not always be the best answer and studying the market and paying to get experts on board could find a new solution to new problem.
What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?
We have been able to reduce the cost to the end user by 50% whilst increasing our bottom line profit by 100% and reducing our cash flow debt from 60 days to getting paid up front.
What are your plans for the future?
To continually develop software and look at new ways in which we can stay ahead of any competition by looking at new ways to solve existing problems.
