Dates: Sep 2007 to Mar 2008
How did the project start?
Through my personal training experience of over 18 years in gyms in the UK and Europe I saw an increasing number of people desperate for new and correct exercise techniques both within the gym and while on the move. With the emergence of ipod and mobile phone technology I identified synergy between the problem and the possible future solution.
What options did you consider?
The different types of phones and MP3 players in addition to different types of software technology in current use. Also considered when and where people use mobile phone technology and how it is rapidly evolving.
What help and expertise did you receive?
Grape Media and atnewmedia assisted in the sms gateway software development to alow the download to mobile possible.
Support, guidance and financial help was also supplied by Business Link North East who were, and continue to be, invaluable in helping get the project off the ground. In addition South Tyneside LEGI Funding has ensured the sustainability of this project.
Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?
The development of new technology to get the project to succeed operationally. Secondly, we had to ensure that the proven technology was user friendly, accessible and cost-effective. And finally to ensure that all of the above processes could be achieved large investment was necessary at the development stage.
What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?
Healthclubtv was established - an interactive website providing real-time exercise film clips that can be downloaded direct to a PC, ipod, PDA or mobile phone and can be viewed anywhere and anytime.
What are your plans for the future?
To promote healthclubtv and sell content to large UK retailers, suppliers of digital TV to the hotel industry and health clubs throughout the UK and to export abroad. Negotiations are already underway.
