How did the project start?

We wanted to expand the offering of the established bdaily e-newsletter through an online network, allowing more of the North East's business community access to up-to-date news from the region.

What options did you consider?

We needed to keep the site modular, so that we could adapt to any developments we wanted to make in the future. We also wanted to offer as much user interactivity as possible.

We always knew we wanted to take bdaily online, but we needed to make it appealing and accessible while remaining true to the established principles of the service.

What help and expertise did you receive?

We used bgroup's in-house team of developers and designers to create the website, the CMS, the mail delivery system, and the updated brand. Consultation with external focus groups and feedback from existing users of the service helped us to make the decisions which lead to the August 2007 launch.

Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?

We had to deal with the effects of the unforeseen scale of increase in readership on our hardware. We also learned a great deal about the value of reader and customer input in preparation for the end product. bdaily readers are very vocal about what they want from our service!

What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?

Since the re-brand we have seen a leap in subscribers, online readership, and advertisers. bdaily has now become a successful commercial entity as well as providing the North East with an effective news and information resource.

What are your plans for the future?

We intend to further develop the content on offer, as well as launching bdaily.tv (an online business news channel for the North East) and bdaily Xtra (a magazine-style supplement to bdaily.info).
