How did the project start?
The website is the result of a community history project with the Jewish community in North East England.
What options did you consider?
The website needed to be as accessible as possible for all users, and different options were considered for this.
This included providing content in British Sign Language films, testing the site for screen reader users and other accessibility tests.
What help and expertise did you receive?
Newcastle based design agency SUMO advised on accessibility and designed and built the website.
Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?
To balance the need for the website to be visually stimulating for all users with making the website is as accessible as possible.
What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?
The website has brought memories from the Jewish community to life, and made them accessible to people all over the world.
The website has also been included in an exhibition about migration to the region.
What are your plans for the future?
Jewish Lives is one of a series of websites which will bring memories from different communities across the North East to life.
